a silver handled buttonhook by Adie & Lovekin, established in 1879 at 23 Frederick Street, Birmingham. It is hallmarked Birmingham but the date letter is rubbed.

a silver and ivory handled BOOT buttonhook by Edward Souter Barnsley & Co, established in 1887 at 45 Frederick Street, Birmingham. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1889. The extreme length of the boot hook is reputed to aid ladies when fixing the boot buttons without bending when the fashion for button boots was introduced

a magnificent antique Victorian BOOT buttonhook with ivory handle and silver mounts. The maker, Deakin & Francis –   renowned for these ivory & silver boot hooks was established in 1882 at 15/17 Regent Street, Birmingham and continued in business until the 1980’s. The hallmark is date letter “P” for 1889 assayed in Birmingham.

The extreme length of the boot hook is reputed to aid ladies when fixing the boot buttons without bending when the fashion for button boots was introduced

a Sterling silver handled button hook with Greco Roman figures of American origin. It has the appearance of hand wrought silver smithing with three embossed heads and an open terminal. The date of manufacture can be confirmed as 1884 from the inscription “Pauline from Charlie Nov 1884″  which is particularly early for a button hook. It is likely the design was influenced by George W Shiebler who was making similar Homeric style items from 1880 to 1890.
