a beautiful heavy quality all-silver buttonhook & shoehorn combination  with a chased design front & back. The maker is the famous  Piccadilly retailer J Drew & Sons, established in 1892 with additional workshops at 62 Hatton Garden London. the makers mark SSD ED is for Samuel Summers Drew & Ernest Drew and the assay mark is for London 1897

an unusual and rare silver handled buttonhook with handle in the form of a Beatrix Potter character from one of her books. I have not previously seen this TOM KITTEN character nor do I know the maker whose hallmark is Chester with makers initials WHC  assayed in Chester in 1924. However, there is another Beatrix character buttonhook identified by the Buttonhook Society, PETER RABBIT also Chester and the same makers initials  It is In pristine condition

an Edwardian silver handled figural buttonhook in the form a Jester. The hallmark HC*WN was an alternative mark for Crisford & Norris and occasionally used when assayed in Chester. The assay mark is for Chester 1907

Of all the popular figural buttonhooks produced during the Edwardian decade of the 20th Century, the elephant is one of the most rare.

The Buttonhook Society Compendium of Crisford & Norris buttonhooks has never  recorded this larger version of Peter Pan which is undoubtedly rare.
