an Edwardian silver handled buttonhook by Levi & Salaman, established in 1873 at 143 Newhall Street, Birmingham. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1902.

L&S produced many button hook designs the quality of which is significantly better than standard Birmingham silversmiths. The silver is heavier weight and the steel bolster where the shank meets the handle is a unique shape exclusive to the L&S.

a silver and ivory handled BOOT buttonhook by Edward Souter Barnsley & Co, established in 1887 at 45 Frederick Street, Birmingham. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1889. The extreme length of the boot hook is reputed to aid ladies when fixing the boot buttons without bending when the fashion for button boots was introduced

a magnificent antique Victorian BOOT buttonhook with ivory handle and silver mounts. The maker, Deakin & Francis –   renowned for these ivory & silver boot hooks was established in 1882 at 15/17 Regent Street, Birmingham and continued in business until the 1980’s. The hallmark is date letter “P” for 1889 assayed in Birmingham.

The extreme length of the boot hook is reputed to aid ladies when fixing the boot buttons without bending when the fashion for button boots was introduced
